Collection Historical Note
Marie Ricard Goodfellow (December 13, 1886 – January 1978), Marie Ricard was born in either Illinois or Ontario. There is speculation that Marie was a Native American who attended the Carlisle School in Pennsylvania which she sought to conceal, and is unproven at this point. She married William Goodfellow sometime between 1906 and 1908. William Goodfellow was an English immigrant to the United States. Marie and her husband William were employed by William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody to run the TE Ranch from about 1909 until Cody’s death in 1917. Marie and William had 3 children, Wilbur, Harold, and Nellie. After the Goodfellows left the TE Ranch they moved to Idaho where they worked at the Fort Lapwai, Idaho, Indian Sanatorium. The Goodfellows were divorced sometime after 1920 and Marie Goodfellow ended up living in Spokane, Washington with two of her children and a cousin of William’s. William Goodfellow married Ellen Johnson on October 6, 1923 in Billings, Montana.
