Cody Trading Company (1898 - 1963) | McCracken Research Library
Cody Trading Company was founded in 1898 by Jakie Schwoob, from Buffalo, New York. Schwoob was one of the town’s founders, and was the successor to the Forbes Trading Company, the first real general story in Cody. The original wood building at 13th and Sheridan Avenue burned in 1913 but was replaced by a larger brick store, the next year. During the year of construction the store occupied the former Iowa Store across the street. Schwoob’s motto was “We Sell Everything,” and the company did. The store carried food, clothes, and everything imaginable for the time. Cody’s oldest business continued at the spot until 1963.
