Abstract

This collection represents German perceptions of the American West and relationships between Euro-Americans and American Indians. The collection includes catalogs, newsletters, programs and pamphlets, postcards, books, an audiocassette, video tapes, and various artifacts that date from 1963, 1987-2000. Most of the materials are in German. The condition of this collection is excellent. Total volume represents five boxes (2.5 c.f.) and 1 large poster folder.

Series I is devoted to Karl may materials and includes a brief biography; catalogs, guidebooks, and postcards of the Karl-May-Museum exhibits;  Programs, pamphlets, and poster of the Karl-May-Spiele; program of the Nebraska-Haus Inauguration-Ceremony; a series of Karl May & Co. Magazines; various books, videos, an audiocassette; and a small collection of Karl-May-Museum souvenirs.

Series II is devoted to a general collection of German materials and artifacts related to the American West and Native American Indians found in popular magazines, comic books, various other types of illustrative materials and video.
