Abstract

An amateur ethnologist, Anne Black collected materials on the Northern Cheyenne Indians. Included in these papers are the 1891 – 1910 superintendent's letter books of the Tongue River Agency, and recorded narratives, typed interviews, and photographs [access to some components of this collection is RESTRICTED].

Collection Historical Note

Anne Black (1891-1950) was a student of Franz Boas, and ethnographer of the Northern Cheyenne Indians.

Ernest American Horse (1910-1967) was a Northern Cheyenne man, as well as the main informant to Anne Black in her studies of the Cheyenne.
