Two cabinet cards featuring: William Philo Clark, veteran of the Plains Indians Wars and author of The Indian Sign Language. Army Corps of Engineers Brigadier General Hiram Chittenden, who defined the boundaries of Yosemite NP and oversaw the construction of the Melan Arch Bridge (now Chittenden Bridge) in Yellowstone NP and the Lake Washington Canal connection to Puget Sound. Both wearing their West Point uniforms, circa 1865 and 1880.
Chittenden was born on October 25, 1859 and died October 9, 1917. Clark was born on July 27, 1845 and died September 22, 1884.
