Title: MS 046 - Glenbow Photograph Album Collection, 1895-1905
Abstract
Photograph album containing approximately sixty black-and-white and sepia photographs (albumin prints) taken in Montana around 1900. It includes images of soldiers, military camps, forts, the Little Bighorn Battlefield, Lame Deer (on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation, previously named the Tongue River Reservation), the Cheyenne people, and Western life in general. The album is 28.5 x 18.2 cm with cardboard pages and black covers with leather corners. “Photographs” appears on the front cover in fancy gold lettering. The prints are pasted onto the pages, often more than one to a page, and many are accompanied by captions hand-written in pencil directly in the album. A typed collection inventory provides more information about some of the photographs; however, it is unknown who wrote it and when.
