Collection Overview
Abstract
This collection consists of the records of the Buffalo Bill Memorial Association covering the years from 1917-1974 and totaling 3 linear feet. The records have been divided into 8 series; Minutes & Agendas, General Board Correspondence, Acquisitions & Collections Records, Financial Records, H. Peter Kriendler Papers, Veterans' Housing Records, and Miscellaneous. Subseries have been created where necessary. They form Manuscript Collection 58 in the Harold McCracken Research Library manuscript collection.
Scope and Contents of the Materials
The Buffalo Bill Memorial Association (BBMA) founded in 1917 is the legal entity of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. The BBMA archives consist of correspondence, museum acquisitions records including correspondence, collections lists & appraisals, minutes & agendas, financial records, press releases, histories, blueprints, pamphlets, photographs, newspaper clippings and legal documents such as by-laws, contracts, wills, and trusts relating to the creation, administration and expansion of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. Board correspondence consists primarily of correspondence handled by Ernest J. Goppert, Sr., longtime president of the Board of Trustees. Mary Jester Allen, Helen Cody Allan, Director Dr. Harold McCracken, and Dick Frost are also represented.
